Grow the Marinka Tongue Pepper, a distinctive variety characterized by its elongated, tongue-shaped fruits. This pepper offers a complex flavor with fruity notes and a moderate heat that intensifies as it matures.

A LITTLE HISTORY

This sweet pepper from Marinka comes from a village called Marinka or Maryinka which is pronounced Marjinke,

Some time after the 1775 liquidation of the Zaporizhian Sich, the lands of Kalmius Palatine were first transferred to Greek settlers.

However, according to the general plan of Aleksandrovsk County of the 1830s, the Maryinka area and the surrounding villages were not settled.

After the final demarcation of government lands in the 1840s, former Ukrainian Cossacks and state peasants from various counties of Poltava Governorate and Kharkov Governorate (Little Russia) moved to territory not settled by Greeks.

After the partition of Poland at the end of the 18th century, Poles exiled from the kyiv and Podolia governorates were also exiled, under the special supervision of the local administration.

Unlike state peasants who used communal land, exiled Poles were considered landowners ("odnodvortsy").

In 1859, there were 1,318 people. As a state village, Marinka belonged to the fourth group of Aleksandrovsk County, Yekaterinoslav Governorate.

The village administration consisted of a village headman (village chief), a tax collector, a secretary, and a supervisor.

Today in 2022, the Population is 9,089 pre-war estimate 2022.

The city was on the front lines of the 2022 Russo-Ukrainian War and suffered extensive damage.

So I decided to grow this early pepper in solidarity with the Ukrainians.

I wish I could send them seeds to Ukraine so that they don't disappear because of the war they suffered.

This is my way of showing solidarity with these people.

This variety is mid-early with very attractive bright red fruits with a sweet and slightly tangy taste.

From sowing to maturity it will take 80 to 100 days and does not contain many seeds.

The shape of the fruit is a slightly laterally flattened cone, reminiscent of a human tongue.

The skin is soft, shiny, the pulp is fragrant, sweet, 5 to 6 mm thick.

The fruit weight is 200-250 grams and it is an ancestral variety from Ukraine.

There is not much additional information for this fruit.

It is a pepper that is super productive and also very early, therefore excellent for our habitat in Quebec.
